Energy Labs North builds data intelligence tools grounded in Canadian government open data — delivering comprehensive neighbourhood intelligence for communities across Canada.
Why we built this
Canadians make some of the most consequential decisions of their lives — where to buy a home, where to raise a family, where to locate a business — with surprisingly little accessible data. The information exists in government open data portals, but it's scattered, technical, and hard to use.
We aggregate, process, and present that data in a form that's genuinely useful. No speculation, no affiliate angles. Just the data, clearly presented.
The free Standard tier is a public good. The paid B2B API is the business model — serving realtors, developers, researchers, and municipal governments who need professional-grade data depth.
What we use and where it comes from
Every data point on the platform comes from Canadian government open data or licensed Canadian data sources. Our platform covers demographics and population, housing markets and rental conditions, natural hazards, climate and air quality, economic health, crime, infrastructure access, environmental quality, land use, transportation patterns, and broadband availability.
All data is sourced under Canadian Open Government Licences. Attribution details are included in every API response.
How NorthScore works
NorthScore (0–100) is a composite livability index computed for every populated geographic area across Canada. It is built from six weighted components, each percentile-ranked against all populated areas in Canada. It measures livability for a typical resident, not investment potential — housing prices are not part of the score.

How we handle your data
We collect only what's necessary: your email address, hashed password, and the addresses you search. We do not sell, share, or broker your data. We do not run ads.
