Frequently asked questions

What data sources do you use?

All data comes from Canadian government open data: Statistics Canada (census, crime, commuting, PMD), CMHC (housing, rental), NRCan (seismic, flood, terrain), ECCC (climate, air quality, NPRI), BC Wildfire Service, CRTC (broadband), and more. Full attribution is on our data attribution page.

Why is postal code data not on the free tier?

Six-digit postal codes are Canada Post intellectual property. Using them commercially requires a licence from Canada Post or a licensed reseller. We're in the process of confirming this licence for paid tiers. Free accounts use FSA-level (3-character) data, which covers roughly 10,000–30,000 people and is accurate enough for most neighbourhood decisions.

When will paid tiers launch?

We're validating demand before launching billing infrastructure. Register your interest and we'll contact you directly when paid tiers go live — likely within a few months. Early registrants get priority access.

Can I use this data in my own products?

Standard and Professional tiers are for personal or internal business use only. Business tier includes display rights. Enterprise tier includes redistribution rights. See our API Terms of Use for details.

Is this data accurate enough for professional use?

Our data is sourced directly from Statistics Canada, CMHC, NRCan, and other federal and provincial agencies — the same sources used by academic researchers and government planners. It is not a substitute for professional engineering assessments (for hazards) or Phase I/II environmental reports. See our methodology page for data vintage and known limitations.
